Wilfredo Prieto (Apolitico, 2001)
The Cuban artist Wilfredo Prieto explores communicative competition on an international level. His installation with the title Apolítico is a parable on nationalistic signaletics. The artist had the flags of all countries recognized by the United Nations be produced in an abstract black-and-white version. Instead of displaying brilliant colors so as to score points in the rivalry between nations, these flags flutter in egalitarian equanimity above the Hardturm Stadium, formerly a site of international soccer matches.
