Valentin Carron (Ca-Tarac-Ta, 2012)

With his work "ca-tarac-ta" Valentin Carron recalls a historically significant symbol of urban civilization—a modern interpretation of the pump fountains: in the early nineteenth century they, for the first time, provided the population of cities with fresh water. Installed at the Hardturm Stadium wasteland, Carron’s fountain will, for the period of one summer, satisfy a fundamental need: it will quench the thirst of passers-by and art lovers. As art historian Julien Fronsacq notes in the exhibition catalogue: “The non-monumental fountain with pump designed by Valentin Carron calls to mind spaces of living and working, sites of meeting and activity.”
