Thomas Geiger (I want to become a millionaire, 2010/2012)

In cultural circles, the young German artist Thomas Geiger has an honorable profession: he is a fundraiser. He has spent the last two years on the streets of European cities, seeking dialogue and support from passers-by for his art publishing house. His project, I Want to Become a Millionaire, borders precariously on begging. In this manner Geiger very subtly draws attention to a problem which time and again prompts discussions in the cultural industry: the perpetual balancing act between philanthropic funding and utilitarian sponsoring.
