Subodh Gupta (Untitled, 2008)

Civilization transfers play a decisive role in the works of Subodh Gupta. Untitled (2008) is an ode to the common water bucket still widely used in India for providing people with water. The bucket is a prevalent industrial product in many Indian villages, and also represents the promise of a better future. For ART AND THE CITY, the more than five-meter-high sculpture has been placed at the Tessinerplatz, site of a weekly farmers’ market. It thereby provides an emblematic commentary on the question, raised by Gupta time and again, regarding the sustainability of intercontinental or global flows of commodities and their anchoring in local contexts.
