Taiyo Onorato & Nico Krebs (Kameras, 2012)
The young Swiss photo artists Taiyo Onorato and Nico Krebs have attracted attention in recent years with witty reinterpretations of photography. They create photo cameras whose bulky size recalls the early days of the medium, and fit these archaic imagining machines with large format optics that seem more than obsolete in the digital age. It is obvious that the issue at hand is the relationship between form and function. It is therefore not surprising that Onorato / Krebs have installed a series of new camera sculptures along the main thoroughfares—a tongue-in-cheek commentary on the compulsive need for monitoring in a society obsessed with control.
